Bay Area OCD Treatment

Bay Area OCD Treatment

The Bay Area OCD and Anxiety Center offers Exposure and Response Prevention treatment for adults, adolescents and children with mild to severe Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders.

Dr. Jenks has experience treating a wide range of obsessions related to aggression, contamination, having “bad thoughts” (sexual, perverse, pedophile), being gay, religion or morality, harm, loss and health and body-related fears. Clinicians also have experience working with clients with “just right” obsessions, perfectionism, “neutral obsessions” (body functions, sounds) and superstitions and magical thinking.

The frequency of visits ranges from once a week for 1 hour to twice a week for 1.5 hours. The length of treatment depends on many factors. Some individuals finish treatment within several months while others may need to be in treatment longer to accomplish their goals. Research shows that people who complete a course of CBT can expect a 60-80% reduction in symptom severity by the end of treatment.

What is ERP?

ERP stands for Exposure and Response Prevention. The consensus among experts is that ERP is the only effective treatment for OCD. A large number of research studies support this. Many people with OCD receive inappropriate or inadequate treatment due to a lack of trained mental health professionals. In fact, it takes on average 14 to 17 years from the time OCD begins to the time people receive appropriate treatment.
